Carbenes are a fascinating class of organic molecules with a divalent carbon atom having six electrons in its valence shell. While “Arduengo type” unsaturated carbenes are very popular among chemists, saturated NHCs represent a unique class due to their more nucleophilic character and lower HOMO-LUMO gap than their unsaturated analogs. In this talk, we will present the use of saturated N-heterocyclic carbene (SNHC) in C-F bond activation.1,2 Further, we describe the utilization of SNHCs in designing Thiele’s and ChiChibabin’s hydrocarbon with the lower singlet-triplet gap.3 Finally, the employment of SNHCs as ligands in boron chemistry will be presented.4-8
