Does an optical beam follow Snell's law when it reflects or refracts from any interface? In this talk, we shall see how the inclusion of diffractive corrections of the light beam exhibits polarization-dependent shifts of the beam centroid. However, the tiny magnitude of such beam shifts makes these very hard to detect. Weak measurement and weak value amplification is a protocol commonly used to amplify such weak effects. The beam shifts can occur both in horizontal (longitudinal) and vertical (transverse) directions. Recently, we have demonstrated these two variants of the beam shifts are originally non-separable which we shall go through in the last part of the talk. |
