The topic of human health and well-being has been closely studied throughout the history of mankind. Different geographical areas in the world developed indigenous knowledge, which has been practised. In India, the earliest references are found in the writing of Sushruta Samhita, and some of those have been in practice in a seemingly unbroken tradition. In the modern period, many Indians have made significant contributions to the areas of human well-being. I will pick some notable examples and suggest that the burden of carrying forward this legacy is on our generation. |
