Understanding soil and root microbial communities is crucial for comprehending the intricate interactions that shape its biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. I employ an environmental DNA sequencing approach to delve into the complex microbial networks within the soil and root from different ecosystems including polar, forest and arid environments. By harnessing the power of high-throughput sequencing technologies, we reveal the taxonomic and functional diversity of the microbial communities, shedding light on their roles in nutrient cycling, plant health, and overall ecosystem resilience. However, while this method offers unprecedented insights, it also poses specific challenges and potential pitfalls. I will discuss the limitations and biases that researchers should be wary of when interpreting sequencing data. |
