Electron interference in the Quantum Hall regime has proven to be an extremely useful tool in mesoscopic systems to unveil the underlying rich quantum physics. Interference study of strongly interacting electrons in two dimensions has long been predicted to reveal a different particle statistics than the well-known Bose-Einstein or Fermi- Dirac statistics, known as Anyonic statistics. However, observation of interference of anyonic excitations has long remained elusive, until very recent times. In the research work performed during my PhD, I have used electron interferometry as a testbed to approach the problem of finding the long- sought anyonic statistics. After pinpointing the source of the aberration of anyonic interference, the attempt of neutralizing it resulted into a startling discovery of the answer to a very fundamental question of measuring quantum shot-noise in quantum Hall regime. The discovery has strengthened the understanding of the origin of shot-noise of such strongly correlated system, taking into account the interplay between charge modes and charge-neutral modes. |
