| Description: | [DPS Seminar] Dr. Ion Santra (KU Luven, Belgium) -- The world of nonequilibrium reservoirs |
| Date: | Tuesday, Aug 25, 2026 |
| Time: | 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. |
| Venue: | Asima Chatterjee Lecture Theatre |
| Details: | Nonequilibrium reservoirs challenge the conventional notions and universalities associated with thermal reservoirs. I will discuss an open system framework to realize microscopic models of nonequilibrium reservoirs using active particles, and show how their nonequilibrium character becomes visible in the fluctuations of a single probe particle. Thereafter, I will discuss how a difference of the nonequilibrium fluctuations in such spatially separated reservoirs can induce an energy current, which can exhibit negative differential conductivity and current reversals. Further I will also show how related effects can arise purely from the kinetics of the system-reservoir contact. |
