A clear understanding of the role of sugar in numerous important biological events has led to an increased demand for carbohydrate based molecules for their complete chemical, biological, medicinal, and pharmacological investigations. Also, carbohydrates have an enormous range of shape, composition, orientation, and thus this class of compounds underlie a significant pharmaceutical potential and recognized as valuable scaffolds for an easy access of diverse library of compounds, where some of them have shown promising pharmacological activities against wide range of diseases. Therefore, tremendous efforts have been made to develop novel and facile procedures to achieve the desired sugar based molecules. In this context synthesis of a broad range of simple to complex sugar-based molecules including combinatorial scaffolds, oligosaccharides, glycodendrimers, sialosides, macrocycles etc achieved in my laboratory will be presented in detail. |
