The concept of “non-innocent" ligands in transition metal complexes has become more popular in recent years[1-6] and it has further been extended to more variegated molecular frameworks. The delicate intramolecular charge, spin and electron transfer phenomena in such multi component assemblies result in highly variable valence and spin-configurations and often reflect considerable ligand-metal orbital mixing (i.e. covalency), leading to even unconventional intermediate descriptions. The present talk aims at highlighting some of the aforesaid fundamental issues using selective non-innocent assemblies.
