Carbon-carbon bond forming reactions via C-H functionalization have become one of the most popular research topics for synthetic chemists all over the world. Transformations proceeding via electrophilic metallation mechanisms have successfully been employed in regioselective C-H functionalization of electron-rich arenes as well as many heterocyclic substrates. Similarly, use of Lewis-basic heteroatoms as directing groups to achieve regioselective C-H functionalization has been a topic of great interest. Our group has been interested in regioselective C-H functionalization reactions that proceed via electrophilic metallation mechanisms, and at the same time we also employ heteroatoms to direct the regioselectivity. In this talk, we shall attempt to bring out the difference between heteroatom-guided and heteroatom-directed C-H functionalizations. |
