Integrating additional tunabilities and functionalities to a material system is the key strategy to design modern day multifunctional devices. Transition metal oxides exhibit rich phase diagrams and exotic physical properties due to strong correlations between multiple degrees of freedoms. Unlike macro scale system, the physical parameters of nanoscale materials or devices are dominated by its surface and interface parameters. Here I will talk about the role of surface modifications on the photoconductivity and photoluminescence of ZnO Nanowires. I will also discuss how the surface modification effects on quantum-dot-sensitized-solar cells. Then I will talk about achieving multi-functionalities in different oxide interfaces with different dimensionalities. Finally I will discuss about the applications of different oxides as the electron transporting materials in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (CH3NH3PbX3) solar cells. |
