Lattice QCD calculations predict a phase transition of the nuclear
matter to a deconfined medium of quarks and gluons, the Quark Gluon
Plasma (QGP), at extreme energy-densities. The properties of the
QGP can be studied using heavy quark resonances. The suppression
(due to color screening mechanism) or enhancement (due to regener-
ation mechanism) of quarkonium have been proposed as signatures of
the QGP. ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) of LHC has mea-
sured heavy quark resonance production at midrapidity (|y| < 0.8) in
the dielectron channel and at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4) in the
dimuon channel for pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the TeV scale.
Measurements in p-Pb and pp collisions help to decouple cold nu-
clear matter effects from hot nuclear effects in Pb-Pb collisions. In
this talk, an overview of ALICE results on quarkonium production
will be presented and compared to theoretical and phenomenological
calculations. |
