This talk concerns the dynamics of systems where continuous-time
evolution in the phase space can be punctuated by discrete switching
events that change the dynamical equations. Such systems occur in many
practical applications including switching electronic circuits,
impacting mechanical systems, systems involving dry friction
(stick-slip motion), walking robots, etc. I will first show that
discrete-time modelling of such systems give rise to piecewise smooth
maps. Then I will talk about the theory of bifurcations in such maps,
including interesting dynamical phenomena like border collision
bifurcation, robust chaos, dangerous bifurcations, etc. |
