[DPS Seminar] Dr. Sourin Das (Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi) -- Role of Pancharatnam's geometric phase and quantum metric in transport across two dimensional topological insulators |
Date: |
Thursday, Sep 12, 2013 |
Time: |
noon - 1 p.m. |
Venue: |
Class Room 1, JC Bose |

In the first part of my talk I will start with an introduction to topic of "geometry in quantum mechanics". This will include introductions two main topics
a)geometric phase in quantum evolution (including Pancharatnam's geometric phase )
b) Fubini-Study metric in the projective Hilbert space
In the second part I of my talk I will give a briefly introduction to the topic of two dimensional topological insulators and show that electronic transport in this systems in presence of magnetic filed can be expressed solely in terms of purely geometric quantities like "Pancharatnam's phase" and "distances between states in the projective Hilbert space defined by the Fubini-Study metric".
