Tris(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenylborate (ToM) is a monoanionic and fac-coordinating ‘scorpionate’-type ligand, analogous to the tris-pyrazolylborate (Tp) series. Zinc and magnesium complexes of the type [(ToM)MX] (M = Zn, Mg; X = H, CR3, SiR3, NR2, OR, OOR etc.) were studied in details including their stoichiometric and catalytic reactivity.
Triphenylborane (BPh3) is a moderately strong Lewis acid receiving much less attention compared to its perfluorinated analog B(C6F5)3. Similarly, the hydridotriphenylborate anion [HBPh3]- is substantially nucleophlic but rarely applied compared to the super hydride [HBEt3]- and selectride [HB(s-Bu3)]-, or the [HB(C6F3)3]-. This two simple reagents were established as efficient and highly chemoselective catalysts for reductive transformations under mild conditions. |
