Survival analysis deals with time to event data. The time to occurrence of any event of interest is known as lifetime or survival time. The statistical analysis of lifetime data is an important topic in many areas, including biomedical, engineering, social sciences, business problems etc. In this talk I will consider basics of survival analysis methods. The concept of survival function and hazard function will be discussed. The major challenge of lifetime data analysis is to develop methodology that deals with censoring. Censoring occurs when we have some information about individual lifetime, but we do not know the lifetime time exactly. Some examples of lifetime data will be discussed.
