Glucose derived carbon nanospheres (CSP)1
are cell permeable, self-fluorescent and possess
unique ability to cross blood brain barrier. By employing CSP, we delivered a small molecule
activator of master epigenetic enzymes, p300/CBP and induced acetylation of histones which
resulted in adult neurogenesis and thereby activation of long term memory in mice2
. This system
could also be used to recover the memory deficiency in Alzheimer’s disease model mice almost
completely.
3 Delivery of anti-neoplastic therapeutics for glioma could also be done successfully
using CSP. Presently we are actively working on the delivery of antibiotics for brain infection.
