| Details: | Consider a homogeneous system which has been rendered thermodynamically unstable by a rapid temperature quench. The system evolves via the emergence and growth of domains of the preferred phases. This problem of the kinetics of phase transitions has received much attention in the context of pure and isotropic systems. However, real experimental systems contain varying degrees of quenched or immobile disorder. We show that these disorder sites become trapping centers for the coarsening domains. This results in a crossover from early-time power-law growth to asymptotic logarithmic growth. |
