It is well-known that both electrostatics and entropy of ions play major roles in defining the size, density, or effective charge content of polymer systems. In this talk I shall summarize our research in the past few years on this topic. The systems discussed will be a single isolated polyelectrolyte (PE - charged polymer) chain, a PE gel, and two oppositely charge PEs being complexed. The effect of charge and entropy in the kinetics of swelling of gels and single PE chains will also be discussed. |
