Photonic technology has allowed the precise control of the properties of the propagation of light through an optical system. In this talk we describe to examples of such control. First, we describe how to obtain a massive reduction of the group velocity of light by means of electrically induced transparency in an atomic rubidium vapor. We then describe how to process of light drag is strongly enhanced under these circumstance. The second part of the talk will show how the phase velocity of light can be dramatically increased in a material with a refractive index that is nearly equal to zero. |
