Research over the past few years have revealed that in four
dimensional asymptotically flat space time any gauge theory or theory of
gravity has infinite dimensional global symmetries. These are called
asymptotic symmetry or the group of large transformations. Quite
surprisingly the well known soft soft factorization theorems for
S-matrix elements can be thought of as the Ward identities for these
symmetries. In this talk I will discuss some of the applications of this
and will also discuss what new thing it teaches us about the symmetries
of Yang-Mills theory and Einstein gravity in four dimensions. |
