Recent experiments on dipolar gases of magnetic atoms and polar molecules are opening interesting new possibilities.
On one side, experiments on dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates of magnetic atoms have recently created a dipolar supersolid array of quantum droplets, in which superfluidity and crystal-like order coexist. After briefly introducing the idea of quantum droplet and dipolar supersolid, I will discuss our recent works on 2D dipolar supersolids in collaboration with F. Ferlaino’s group [1-3], and the possibility of nucleating and observing vortices in the supersolid phase [4]. I will then comment on our works on dipolar mixtures, which can open novel scenarios for quantum droplets [5] and supersolids [6,7].
In the second part of the talk, I will comment on dipolar gases in optical lattices. I will first focus on the physics of inter-site dynamically-bound dimers, and in particular on dimer clusterization [8], and on flat-band dimers in 2D lattices [9]. I will then comment on how polar lattice gases are a very natural scenario for the study of the interplay between disorder-induced and interaction-induced localization, and of disorder-free many-body localization [10,11].
