A clear understanding of the recent trends of Himalayan glaciers is necessary. We use a
simple one dimensional flowline model to study the debris covered glaciers in the Himalaya.
Our results help explain some of the puzzling features reported in a large scale remote sensing
study of Himalayan glaciers. We have also used a similar model study to estimate the avalanche
contribution to mass balance of Hamtah glacier, Himachal Pradesh. We showed that this
avalanche term is significant and was missed in field measurements. |
