Bound states of heavy quarks and anti-quarks (quarkonia) are
important probes
of the QGP. Their evolution in the QGP is affected greatly by the hierarchy
between the binding energy (Eb) of the quarkonium states and the temperature of
the QGP (T). If Eb is much smaller than T, then the dynamics are dominated by a
response of the QGP at zero frequency, and the quantum evolution of
quarkonium is
memoryless. We show, however, that Eb is comparable to T in the QGP
and one needs to
use the full frequency structure of the response to follow the dynamics. We
study bottomonium evolution using a master equation with memory and calculate
its suppression in heavy ion experiments. |
