| Details: | In this pedagogical talk, introductory aspects of surface and quantum effects that leads to interesting physics of low dimension will be presented. This will be elucidated by briefly giving examples related to melting transition in nanostructures, surface modifications, and physics of integral quantum hall effect in two dimensional gas. The presentation shall introduce the basic concepts of growth dynamics and kinetics of thin films and heterostructures that are necessary for realizing low dimensional systems. This will also include a brief discussion on the molecular beam epitaxy technique. Finally I shall describe the physics of X- rays methods for structural and electronic characterization of materials especially for thin films and heterostructures. |
